Fellow in Forensic Paediatric Medicine 2024

 

Department: Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service (VFPMS), The Royal Children's Hospital and Monash Children’s Hospital

 

  • Appointment: Part Time for 12 months (6 months full time equivalent)

  • Great opportunity for people considering general paediatric practice, especially in regional areas.

One 0.5 EFT position available for a Fellow in Forensic Paediatric Medicine for 2024.

 

The Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service (VFPMS) provides a coordinated 24-hour statewide forensic paediatric medical service for evaluation of non accidental injuries and suspected child sexual abuse. It also provides consultations to health professionals, police and child protection workers in relation to children for whom child abuse is suspected.

 

Consultations are provided at The Royal Children's Hospital and Monash Children’s Hospital. Fellows work at both sites for sessions during the day and cover both sites after hours when on-call. On call commitments are approximately one week in four (split rostering) with consultant supervision and support.

 

Training in forensic paediatric medicine will be provided, including training in the evaluation of child sexual abuse, writing medico-legal reports and presenting evidence to other professionals and the courts.

 

Most, but not all, Fellows will be eligible for the VFPMS ‘Certificate of Competency’ at the completion of their term.

Please note that the successful applicant must undergo a police and working with children check. In addition, all International Medical Graduate applicants will need to meet the AHPRA English Language requirements, in order to be successful in this position.
