Applications are now open for the International Fellows in Paediatric Surgery, commencing between August 2025 and October 2025, for a period of 12 months.

These positions have the opportunity to be involved in a range of paediatric surgical specialities including trauma, burns, urology, oncology hepatobiliary, thoracic, neonatal and transplant surgery. Dedicated training in a specific area may be available and can be discussed upon application. Working in one of the busiest paediatric surgical service in Australasia, the roles are demanding, but provide great exposure to a wide variety of paediatric surgical conditions and an opportunity to enhance one’s surgical training.

The positions is most suitable for international trainees, ideally in the year prior or immediately after completion of a Fellowship examination in Paediatric Surgery. The positions are not suitable for senior or established Paediatric Surgeons, nor are they suitable for General Surgical trainees with limited experience in Paediatric Surgery. All applications will be considered.

Applications close on Friday May 3rd 2024. All applications received will be considered and short listed candidates will be offered an interview. All interviews will be conducted by videoconference. At the completion of the interview process, successful candidates will be notified as soon as referee checks are completed. This is to provide sufficient time for each candidate to complete the lengthy immigration process associated with working in Australia.

Appointed applicants must be able to satisfy the English Language requirements for medical registration in Australia. Information about these requirements can be found on the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency at https://www.ahpra.gov.au/registration/registration-standards/english-language-skills.aspx

It will be an advantage for applicants to have completed these requirements prior to interview.

Because of the limited number of positions available, we regret that we are often unable to offer positions to excellent candidates. All unsuccessful applicants will receive prompt written communication of their failure to progress. We are very happy for unsuccessful candidates to apply again in the following year.

The following documents are required on application

  • Covering letter outlining the purpose of application and the applicant's career goals
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Two references from either a Paediatric Surgeon at your current hospital of employment or a previous Paediatric Surgical training director.
