About the Role:
This is a permanent, part-time role for 38 hrs per fortnight within the Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP). This role will be located in Sandringham and Malvern, at 3 days per week (with some flexibility, but must include Mondays and Fridays).
You will be responsible for managing a team of Hearing Screeners as well as conducting newborn hearing screens. You will be responsible for the provision of leadership to the staff, assistance with recruitment and training, staff performance evaluation, team management, operational responsibility for screening duties, stakeholder relationships, and ensuring quality and standards are met at all times. You will also have a key role in the program's strategic direction and ongoing evaluation.
Classification for this position will range from AO51-AO55 per annum, pro rata for part-time, plus Superannuation (Grade 5, Level 1: $92,856.40 to Grade 5, Level 5: $102,653.20). This role is governed by the following Award: Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Workers (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021 - 2025.
What you’ll achieve:
- You will contribute to the early detection of newborn hearing loss, ensuring that infants recieve timely diagnosis and intervention
- You will provide family - centred, compassionate, and clear communication with parents about the screening process.
- You will be responsible for managing and motivating a team of hearing screeners, ensuring high-quality performance, overseeing their recruitment, training, and development, and conducting performance reviews.
- You will play a key role in maintaining and optimising hearing screening operations, ensuring accurate data collection, report compilation, and meeting performance indicators such as screening and referral rates.
- You will build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including hospital management and neonatal staff, while advocating for the hearing screening program.
- You will contribute to the continuous quality improvement of the hearing screening program through regular audits, reviews, and implementing initiatives that enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
- You will ensure that all activities comply with safety, infection control, confidentiality, and RCH policies, contributing to the hospital's commitment to high-quality care for children and families.
Your skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field and/or significant relevant industry experience.
- Experience in people management.
- Experience within the paediatric environment, preferably with infants.
- Proven capacity for leadership in a team environment and ability to work well as a senior team member.
- Experience with staff recruitment and training.
- Experience with database management.

Other requirements:
- Current National Criminal Record Check, or willing to obtain
- Valid Working with Children Check
- A current Victorian Drivers Licence, as the ability to travel between maternity hospitals is essential
- Compliance with RCHs “Staff Immunisation - Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases” procedure
