The Role:

This role is located in the Banksia Ward on the RCH Parkville campus. The Banksia Ward is a 16-bed inpatient unit for young people aged 13 to 18 years of age. The sessional role joins two sessional consultant psychiatrists and offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to clinical care in the field of inpatient care. The successful applicant will be well-supported by consultants and allied health colleagues, and joins a positive workplace culture. You will get the opportunity to be part of a high-performing team with other highly-skilled professionals.


You will be responsible for:

Providing clinical assessments, recovery planning and discharge planning for young people as well as direct clinical oversight of care delivered to inpatients of the Royal Children’s Hospital. In addition, the role provides supervision of junior medical staff and participates in developing procedures and policies and quality improvements for the Banksia Ward.


You will have:

  • Registration with AHPRA as a specialist medical practitioner in Victoria
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Completion of accredited postgraduate training in child and adolescent psychiatry or further experience in youth mental health
  • Sound knowledge of the relevant legislation pertaining to mental health care in Victoria including the Victorian Mental Health Act (2014)
  • Experience in the use of an Electronic Medical Record is highly desirable
