About the Role

This is a Fixed Term, Full Time position to cover Parental Leave for 9 months, at 80 hours per fortnight within the Department of Respiratory and Sleep medicine.

 

You will be required to provide clinical input to all aspects of the respiratory in-patient service as a senior member of the department’s junior medical staff. In addition you will act as medical clinical lead on roster of 5 consecutive nights approximately 1 in 8 weeks. You will provide support, supervision and teaching to middle and junior grade doctors and participate in on-call fellow roster for Respiratory Medicine on a 1 in 4 basis.

 

Classification for this position will range from HM25 ($2,481.70/40 hours week) - HM30 (3415.81/40 hours week) as per Doctors in Training VPHS - AMA - Single Interest Employers Agreement 2022 - 2026.

 

What you’ll achieve:

  • You will actively manage respiratory inpatients with emphasis on those patients in the high dependency unit, assist in the organisation of, and participation in, bronchoscopy lists (following appropriate training) and clinical meetings while also contributing to weekly outpatient clinics under supervision.

 

Your skills and experience

  • Candidates must be enrolled in advanced training in general paediatrics or a relevant paediatric sub specialty including Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. The post represents an ideal opportunity to gain exposure to Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at an advanced level and some prior experience in respiratory medicine is considered highly desirable.

About the Department

The Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at the RCH provides tertiary paediatric respiratory care, education, training and comprehensive research programs and has led internationally in the establishment of paediatric pulmonology as a distinct and important branch of medicine.  Our aim is to provide a world class service to improve health outcomes for children and young people with respiratory diseases throughout Victoria. A clinical referral service is also provided to the children of southern New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia. The Department Consultants comprise 9 Respiratory Physicians who provide cover during business hours for inpatient and outpatient management of respiratory issues. Sub speciality clinics include tracheostomy, sleep, non-invasive ventilation support, TB, bronchiectasis and PCD diagnostics.   Additional roles include participating in clinical governance, education, research and administration activities of the service.
