About the Role
This is a Fixed, Term, Full Time position within the Mental Health Department.
Classification for this position will range from PK1 – PK4
What you’ll achieve:
Working within a multidisciplinary team, the psychology registrar will provide high quality, tertiary mental health care for infants and children 0 to 11 years and their families within our community services, through skilled assessment, treatment, and case management. This will include care delivery to our inpatient cohort on Banksia Ward aged 13 – 17 years old. The psychology registrar will also provide clinical services to teams and services within the Royal Children's Hospital, and external organizations and service providers to promote collaboration and build capacity. This position will rotate across community teams and hospital teams, in the following locations - Parkville, Travancore, Sunshine and Tarneit.
Your skills and experience
- Provide specialist evidence-based clinical psychological assessment and intervention services for children, adolescents and families
- Ensure timely provision of clinical services through appropriate prioritization of own caseload and patient needs
- Provide clinical handover to required standard
- Participate in the Registrar Program to meet the requirements for area of practice endorsement in clinical psychology with the Psychology Board of Australia
- Use frameworks and/or support tools are in place for enhancing learning through reflection.
- Provide child-centered, family focused care through partnership with parents/families
- Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams

About the Department
The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) employs over 100 psychologists working across a range of inpatient and outpatient services including mental health, medical teams, and early intervention. The RCH Psychology Department provides clinical services, clinical governance, and educational and professional leadership to psychologists across RCH all teams and specialities.
RCH Mental Health is a Level 5 tertiary Infant, Child and Family Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service and comprises community and hospital-based services. This includes three multidisciplinary community teams which are based in Travancore, Sunshine and Tarneit.
Our Community Mental Health Programs are undergoing an exciting transformation and expansion as we implement the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System. The transformation will allow the RCH Mental Health Service to help more infants, children, and their families, and implement contemporary models of care that best meet the needs of the families we serve and support them to use their collective strengths for recovery and hope. As part of this transformation, there will be opportunities for further training, supervision, and development.
Our community teams comprise a range of workers and clinicians from various backgrounds including speech pathology, nursing, social work, clinical psychology, neuropsychology, occupational therapy, family peer support, family therapy, psychiatry and paediatrics.
