The Role: An exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic and committed Paediatric Haematologist to join the Haematology team at RCH. (Up to 0.5 EFT ongoing) 

 

The purpose of this role is to provide high quality, evidence-based clinical haematology services  (with capacity for laboratory cover after hours) for patients of the Royal Children’s Hospital and Royal Women’s Hospital, and to promote and develop the research and education programs of the department on campus, nationally and internationally.

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Specialist registration (or are eligible for) in Australia
  • Extensive experience in the specialty of paediatric haematology
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to gain cooperation and influence others in achieving scientific goals and building collaboration.
  • A track record of strong collaborations, support and mentoring of staff and ability to construct a clear vision and strategy with implementation through established change procedures.
  • Availability to meet clinical rostering requirements including participation in the on-call roster

You will be responsible for:

  • Work in partnership with other medical, nursing and allied health professional staff to provide excellent clinical services for inpatients and outpatients within the employee’s scope of practice.
  • Providing strong leadership which supports the ongoing development of the department, (building on the current strengths of the team), including promotion of collaboration with peers and colleagues both local and international in areas of growth and development in the field
  • Liaise with parents/carers and external healthcare providers in relation to treatment plans and procedures
  • Manage in-patients admitted under clinical haematology while on ward service and on-call
  • Contribute to the management of patients referred to Clinical Haematology for consultative advice.
  • Competently perform haematology procedures including bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture and administration of intrathecal chemotherapy in accordance with hospital guidelines (according to scope of practice)
  • Participate in providing high quality services at the Royal Children’s and Royal Women’s Hospital including routine and specialised haematology test reporting, communication and interpretation of results for clinicians, all pathology laboratory quality activities and transfusion medicine services.
  • Assist in the training, supervision and development of junior medical staff

 

You will have:

  • Eligible for full registration as a Specialist Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • Fellowship equivalent with the RACP (Haematology) and RCPA (Haematology)
  • Experience with clinical and diagnostic laboratory haematology in the newborn, paediatric, maternity and women’s health context.
