Diabetes Nurse Educator - CNC A/B

About the Role

We have 2 Parental Leave Replacement positions available and another short term tempoary vacancy, with a total of 104 hours per fortnight or 1.4 EFT available within the Diabetes Allied Health Team:

  • 0.43 EFT parental leave replacement from 5/1/2026-1/1/2027
  • 0.43 EFT parental leave replacement from 9/2/2026-24/1/2027
  • 0.54 EFT temporary vacancy until 5/4/2026

 

You will be responsible for providing self-management education to children and young people living with diabetes, and their families. In conjunction with your multidisciplinary colleagues you will provide a holistic approach to diabetes management for the young person and their family, helping to ensure that the young person and their family are well supported to effectively manage their condition.  

 

Classification for this position will range from ZF4 to ZJ4 (base salary $118,149.20 to $124,368.40 per annum, plus superannuation).

 

Priority will be given to individuals willing to fill more than one vacancy. 

 

What you’ll achieve:

  • Provision of education and support for children and young people living with diabetes and their families.
  • Attend medical and joint nursing and allied health clinics
  • Assist in the coordination, education and initiation of Continuous Glucose Monitoring systems for families 
  • Educational support pertaining to transitioning insulin modality from injections to CSII (pump therapy)
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary review of young people as required
  • Identify young people at risk of presenting to Emergency Department as a result of destabilisation of their diabetes management. Implement an action plan to reduce likelihood of such presentation, and provide appropriate support and education.

 

Your skills and experience 

  • Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education
  • Credentialled Diabetes Educator with ADEA or working towards
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse through APHRA.
  • At least 2 years experience working in Paediatrics or as a Diabetes Nurse Educator
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working within a Multidisciplinary Team

About the Department

The Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the RCH cares for over 1300 children and adolescents with diabetes from metropolitan Melbourne and a further 300 children from regional Victoria with 2-5 new patients diagnosed per week. The RCH diabetes service is involved in active primary care, education, family support, research and advocacy for children and adolescents with living with diabetes.
