About the Role
This is a Fixed Term, Part Time position with a total of 56 hours per fortnight, for 12 weeks available within the Diabetes Allied Health Team to backfill long term leave.
You will be responsible for providing self-management education to children and young people living with diabetes, and their families. In consultation with other members of the multidisciplinary team, appropriate referrals will be made within the Diabetes Service, and to other services as needed to ensure a holistic approach to management for the young person and their family.
Classification for this position will range from $113,360 to $119,329.6
What you’ll achieve:
- Responsible for providing evidence-based self-management education and care activities for children and young people and their families diagnosed with diabetes of any type • Attend medical and joint nursing and allied health clinics
- Educational support pertaining to transitioning insulin modality from injections to CSII (pump therapy)
- Assist in the coordination, education and initiation of Continuous Glucose Monitoring systems for families accessing them via the NDSS scheme
- Coordinate multidisciplinary review of young people as required
- Identify young people at risk of presenting to Emergency Department as a result of destabilisation of their diabetes management. Implement an action plan to reduce likelihood of such presentation, and provide appropriate support and education
Your skills and experience
- Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse through APHRA.
- Experience as a Paediatric Diabetes Nurse Educator
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience working within a Multidisciplinary Team

About the Department
The Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the RCH cares for over 1500 children and adolescents with diabetes from metropolitan Melbourne and a further 300 children from regional Victoria with 2-5 new patients diagnosed per week. The RCH diabetes service is involved in active primary care, education, family support, research and advocacy for children and adolescents with living with diabetes.
