About the Role

This is a Fixed Term Full Time position to cover Parental Leave for 11 months from 10/3/26- 14/2/27 at 80 hours per fortnight within the Nutrition and Food Services department.  

You will be responsible for the nutritional management both those with inborn errors of metabolism (0.4EFT) and those requiring ketogenic diets (0.6EFT) and other clinical specialties as required. Splitting the role into two part-time roles will be considered, however the below working days are fixed.

  • Inborn errors of metabolism days of work - Thursdays and Fridays
  • Ketogenic diets days of work - Mondays, other 2 days negotiable

 

In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will be expected to participate in a non-clinical portfolio, supervise students, and provide education to both students and other healthcare professionals.

Classification for this position will range from AJ1-AJ4 (FTE base salary $94,478.80 to $106,906.80 per annum, plus superannuation).

  • Deliver specialised nutritional care to inpatients and outpatients of The Royal Children's Hospital according to protocols of the Nutrition & Food Services Department
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and clinical supervision to ensure best practice is maintained
  • Provide child centred, family focused care through partnerships with carers and families
  • Possess well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills and attention to detail with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders
  • Actively contribute as an individual and as a member of a team, to the continuous improvement of health care quality and patient safety

 

Your skills and experience

  • Meet the eligibility criteria for full membership of Dietitians Australia (DA)
  • Hold a degree in Dietetics from an accredited course/university, or for overseas candidates The Dietetic Skills Recognition assessment administered by DA
  • Demonstrated experience in an acute clinical environment beyond entry-level
  • Experience in clinical paediatric dietetics or metabolic and ketogenic diets (minimum of 2 years).

About the Department

The Department of Nutrition and Food Services incorporates the clinical dietetic service, the Main Kitchen that caters for inpatient meals and the Central Formula Room that produces formula, enteral feeds and fortifies expressed breast milk to meet the nutritional needs of patients. The Nutrition and Food Services Department sits within the Allied Health Directorate within the Division of Ambulatory Services in the organisational structure at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
