Enrolled Nurse (EN) Transition to Practice Program

If a career in paediatric nursing is something you have always wanted, but never thought you had the skills or knowledge to achieve, the Royal Children’s Hospital EN Transition to Practice Program is the key to realising your professional aspirations.


The Royal Children’s Hospital sits at the forefront of clinical innovation, academic research and specialist education provision. Commencing in March 2023, this 12-month program will provide you with a structured period of supernumerary orientation time and paediatric content specific professional development days. In addition, a comprehensive support system of preceptorship and clinical supervision will further facilitate your transition to a competent and confident paediatric nurse.


If you are currently registered as an Enrolled Nurse (Diploma of Nursing qualification with full IV endorsement) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) with registration commencing no earlier than March 2022, the RCH EN Transition to Practice Program could be the program that sets you on your new professional path. All successful applicants will be offered an ongoing contract from the commencement of the program.

The Role:

  • Salary: $64,911 per annum pro rata plus superannuation

The EN Transition to Practice program provides a career pathway for Enrolled Nurses with less than 12 months of experience to gain the theoretical knowledge and practical skills enabling them to care for our paediatric population competently and confidently. As defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia the EN scope of practice supports enrolled nurses to practice under the delegation and supervision of a Registered nurse.


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Current registration as an Enrolled Nurse (Diploma of Nursing qualification with full IV endorsement) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).  Registration no earlier than March 2022
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP)
  • Availability to commence March 2023
  • Understanding and/or experience in providing family centred care within the paediatric context is desirable\
