About the Role

This is a Permanent Part Time, 48hrs/fortnight, role within the Speciman Reception Departmentat the Royal Children's Hospital.

You will be responsible for the receipting, data entry and processing of specimens for Pathology Laboratory testing. You will also perform general laboratory duties, equipment maintenance and administrative tasks as directed or required by senior staff.

 

What you’ll achieve:

  • Perform Specimen Reception duties at the Royal Children’s Hospital laboratory and Royal Women’s Hospital laboratory as required by the rotational roster.
  • Operation, maintenance, and report of malfunction of automated equipment/instrumentation under the supervision of scientific staff.
  • Perform data entry and registration of patient details on the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to a high level of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Attend, participate in and successfully complete training provided by the hospital, as directed by senior staff.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with Departmental and Organisational policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures, assisting in the effective and efficient operation of the Specimen Reception.

 

Classification for this position will range from BU1-BU8 (base salary $56,908 to 73,382 per annum, plus superannuation)

 

Your skills and experience:

  • Certificate or Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory), a Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Operations or equivalent.
  • Previous experience performing specimen processing in a diagnostic laboratory is desirable.
  • Previous experience performing data entry in a diagnostic laboratory is desirable.

About Laboratory Services Specimen Reception Department

The Specimen Reception Department, within the department of Laboratory Services, provides preanalytical and data entry services to both the Royal Children’s Hospital and the Royal Women’s Hospital.
