About the Role:

This is an ongoing full time position, working 24/7 rotating shift and 9 days a fortnight within the RWH Core Laboratory. You will be responsible for performance of duties in all areas of our multi-disciplinary Core Laboratory (Haematology, Blood Bank, Biochemistry and Specimen Reception) to provide an efficient, caring and professional diagnostic service. You are required to participate in the 24/7 shift roster and on-call roster, and  will also be required to work at The Royal Children's Hospital.

 

What you’ll achieve:

  • Perform and report diagnostic laboratory tests following techinques and procedures documented in laboratory manuals and the Quality System Standard (ISO 15189-2013)
  • Contribute to consistently meeting benchmark Turn Around Times (TAT) established for the laboratory
  • Perform maintenance and quality control testing of Haematology, Blood bank and Biochemistry equipment 

 

Classification for this position will range from RX2 to RX7 ($68,244.80 - $91,785.20 Per Annum, plus super plus salary packaging). 

 

Your skills and experience:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or Bachelor of Science or equivalent is mandatory. Where “equivalent” includes a degree awarded by an overseas tertiary institution which is recognised by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition, which in the case of Medical Scientists is the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS)
  • Experience in a multidiscipline diagnostic pathology laboratory, with experience in at least two of the three disciplines of Blood Banking, Haematology and Biochemsitry
  • Major in Haematology /Blood Bank is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated relevant technical skills and knowledge and ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Knowledge of ISO15189 and its application to medical testing is advantageous

About the RWH Core Laboratory

We are a NATA accrediated branch Laboratory of RCH Laboratory Services that provides 24/7 essential pathology services to The Women's Hospital.

 

 

Victorian Department of Health has endorsed the initiative to restructure existing public pathology by bringing together laboratories into pathology networks operating under a lead health service. 

Pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital will transition to a single pathology service.  This creates an exciting opportunity to strengthen the scope, scale and reach of pathology services across the Parkville precinct to benefit all Victorians.

This role will be part of the new centre of excellence that will be led by Melbourne Health
