About the Role:
Menu Monitors play a crucial role in the Food Services Department, ensuring appropriate meal provision for patients. Their roles include assisting patients and parents with making suitable menu choices consistent with dietary requirements and allergies. They also create production lists to provide accurate orders for kitchen production and patient service, and check tray cards to ensure patients receive their correct meals.
A high level of computer literacy is essential for this role, as both the menu management program and patient records are electronic. Menu Monitors regularly liaise with Dietitians and Nursing staff regarding patient needs.
This casual position requires flexibility and must have good availability across seven days of the week to fill in planned and unplanned leave shifts at short notice.
Classification for this position is GS6, Food Monitor ($31.65 per hour + casual loading + superannuation)
What you’ll achieve:
- Work with other staff as part of a team to achieve high-quality patient meal service and ensure patients receive accurate, safe and acceptable meals
- Offer exceptional customer service to patients and families
- Accurately translate each patient’s dietary needs to menu choices, including food allergen management
- Assist with food production and distribution as requested
Your skills and experience:
- Experience/knowledge of therapeutic diets and allergen-free diets
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable proficiency with a variety of IT systems

About the Nutrition and Food Service department:
The Department of Nutrition and Food Services at The Royal Children's Hospital incorporates the clinical dietetic service, the Main Kitchen that caters for inpatient meals and the Central Formula Room that produces formula, enteral feeds and fortifies expressed breast milk to meet the nutritional needs of patients.
