About the Role

This is a Fixed Term/Full Time position at 86 hours per fortnight within the Department of Metabolic Medicine.

In this clinical role you will work in partnership with a dedicated multi-disciplinary team (MDT) that consists of committed physicians, nurses, dietitians, social worker to co-ordinate and assist in the provision of specialist metabolic care to children and families of Victoria and Tasmania who have a suspected or known inborn error of metabolism. In this role you will train in the fundamentals of metabolic medicine: diagnosis, therapy, family counselling and basic genetic counselling.

Classification for this position will range from HM25-HM30

 

What you’ll achieve:

  • Includes all facets of inpatient and outpatient care, including ward-based procedures, family meetings, and discharge planning, review and new consult clinics and phone consultations
  • Laboratory liaison including weekly reporting sessions
  • Attend and actively contribute to weekly clinical and education meetings

 

Your skills and experience

  • The position is ideal for an advanced trainee in Paediatric Medicine (or as part of elective training in Neurology or Endocrinology, subject to approval by the respective SAC).
  • Experience in Neonatology, Intensive Care, Neurology, Nephrology or Endocrinology is advantageous.
  • General AHPRA Registration is mandatory.

About the Department

The Metabolic Department is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Metabolic physicians, trainees, nurses, dietitian and social work providing a state-wide service to both Victoria and Tasmania. The department has strong links with many sub-specialty units within RCH that consult the service and works collaboratively with the Victorian Clinical Genetics Service laboratories. The department is actively involved in research and participates in clinical trials.
