Virtual Care Senior Analyst Lead

  • Fixed-Term, Full-Time (18 months, grant-funded)
  • Work for Australia's leading Children's Hospital
  • Shape the technical architecture of a landmark paediatric virtual care program
  • Excellent employee benefits including salary packaging
  • Flexible work options available

About the Role:

This is a Fixed-Term Full-Time position at 80 hours per fortnight within the Allied and Digital Health Division, funded by the RCH Foundation for 18 months (July 2026 – September 2027).

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) is building the foundation for the RCH Virtual Care Hub — a $1.38 million RCH Foundation-funded program to transform how we deliver specialised paediatric care to children and families across Victoria and beyond. As Virtual Care Senior Analyst Lead, you will be the cornerstone technical role within this program, leading the design, architecture and configuration of virtual care platforms that will change how children and families access world-class care.

You will set the technical direction for the RCH Patient Portal's virtual care capabilities — including telehealth workflows, GP e-consult functionality, remote monitoring integrations and wearable device connections — while mentoring a team of AO7 analysts and shaping the blueprint for Stage 2 of the Virtual Care Hub.

Classification for this position will range from AO81–AO85, Grade 8 Year 1 to Year 5 (1.0 FTE base salary $155,000–$165,000 per annum, plus superannuation).

What you'll achieve:

  • Lead the technical architecture, build and configuration of virtual care capabilities within the RCH Patient Portal — including virtual specialist clinic appointments, GP e-consult workflows, remote symptom monitoring modules and patient-facing digital tools
  • Architect integrations between the Patient Portal, Epic EMR, wearable device platforms and other virtual care technologies, ensuring data flows are reliable, secure and clinically meaningful
  • Set and maintain technical standards, build conventions and documentation practices for all virtual care platform configurations
  • Lead technical scoping and feasibility assessments for new virtual care models, translating clinical requirements into well-defined system specifications
  • Provide technical mentoring and quality oversight to AO7 Virtual Care Analysts, building capability across the team
  • Represent the virtual care technical function in governance forums and Digital Health committees
  • Contribute to the Stage 2 Virtual Care Hub blueprint — including technical architecture options, capability gap analysis and operating model inputs
  • Oversee data quality and platform governance, ensuring KPIs (Patient Portal adoption, e-consult volumes, DNA rates) are measurable and reported for grant acquittal

  • Demonstrated experience in the analysis, design, configuration and implementation of digital health platforms or enterprise information systems in a complex environment
  • Advanced knowledge of EMR environments — Epic strongly preferred — including system architecture, interfaces and end-user workflows
  • Experience leading technical teams or providing senior technical guidance and mentoring to analysts
  • Proven ability to translate clinical and operational requirements into well-scoped technical solutions
  • Experience managing system upgrades, testing cycles and production support in a regulated or healthcare environment

Highly regarded:

  • Experience with Epic MyChart, the RCH Patient Portal or equivalent consumer-facing digital health platform
  • Experience with telehealth platforms, wearable device integrations or remote monitoring systems
  • Familiarity with HL7, FHIR or other health data interoperability standards
  • Knowledge of the Victorian Virtual Care Strategy or National Digital Health Strategy 2023–2028
  • Experience working within or alongside paediatric or tertiary hospital services

About the Virtual Care Program:

Virtual care is a strategic priority for RCH, enabling the hospital to extend specialised paediatric expertise beyond its walls through telehealth, wearable devices, smartphone apps, digital portals and AI-enabled tools. The Stage 1 Virtual Care Hub builds on a proven set of successful RCH pilots — including virtual models of care in HITH, Cystic Fibrosis monitoring and Complex Asthma — and positions RCH as a national leader in paediatric virtual care.

This is a genuine opportunity to make a lasting technical contribution to how children and families across Victoria access world-class paediatric care.
